It is a key university under construction in Hubei Province and is recognized as a provincial “first-class discipline” cultivation university. According to the US News 2025 World University Rankings, WIT ranks 884th globally, placing it 124th among mainland Chinese universities and among the top provincial universities in Hubei. In the Soft Science 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities, WIT ranks 727th globally, 7th among universities in Hubei Province, and 1st among provincial universities in Hubei. In the Soft Science 2025 Best Chinese Subject Rankings, WIT’s Chemical Engineering and Technology discipline ranks within the top 20% nationally.

National research platform

The State Key Laboratory of Green and Efficient Development of Phosphorus Resources

The State Key Laboratory of Green and Efficient Development of Phosphorus Resources is jointly supported by Guizhou Phosphate Chemical (Group) Co., Ltd., Fuzhou University, and Wuhan Institute of Technology. It was integrated and restructured on the basis of the State Key Laboratory of Efficient Utilization for Low-Grade Phosphate Rock and Its Associated Resources, and approved for construction by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China in December 2024. Professor Wu Minghong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Fuzhou University, serves as its director. Closely centered on China's three major strategic demands, ensuring food security, safeguarding ecological security, and developing strategic emerging industries, the laboratory addresses prominent challenges including low utilization efficiency of phosphorus resources, import dependence on high-end products, and severe environmental pollution. It conducts applied basic research on phosphorus chemistry and the utilization of associated fluorine resources, and pursues breakthroughs in major transformative technologies. The laboratory is committed to developing technologies for the directional separation and controllable transformation of phosphorus and paragenetic elements, creating a series of key materials such as ultra-high-purity phosphorus-based chemicals, and rolling out a set of technologies for phosphorus pollution control and the comprehensive utilization of phosphogypsum. It aims to achieve technological breakthroughs in the directional separation and controllable transformation of phosphorus and paragenetic elements, build itself into a source of original innovation and a technology output base in the phosphate chemical industry, steer the high-end, intelligent, and green upgrading of China's phosphate chemical industry, and cultivate itself into a national strategic scientific and technological force in the field of phosphorus resources.
